So I've kind of put the fan comic on hold for now. I'm still working on the story here and there but I don't quite have the time or resources to really begin such a hefty project right now.

It's been another helluva year, and I'm yet again adding new projects to my creative plate. I think I'm getting better at streamlining my work flow and process while not overloading myself with the details. I'm actually enjoying myself and having more fun, so that's an improvement!

Anyway, there's not much to say at the moment, so I just hope you enjoy the art you find here now. :)

I'm just trying my best to internalize this message right now. I've spent some years doing my best to streamline my workflow, going for what's most effective rather than what's most "flashy" or "realistic."

This is especially important when creating a comic, where there are potentially dozens of pages all with multiple panels, which are basically each little illustrations in themselves. You really have to pare down and refuse to get lost in the details, keeping the whole page in mind. Readability and impact are not the same as excruciating attention to detail.

I've just got to pace myself and be realistic about what I can accomplish with what means.

Besides technical difficulties with getting my new tablet set up, it's been seriously difficult to work on anything more than a sketch or doodle lately.

I think I just get so anxious and worked up and then end up overdoing it and biting off more than I can chew. Then perfectionism kicks in and I'm overwhelmed by all the work I have before me.

I think I've convinced myself that art should be hard, somehow. If drawing and making something is EASY, well, then I must be doing something wrong! Taking the easy way out, not doing the hard work necessary to make real artistic progress. Every project has to be big, and I have to learn something new while making it or else it was a waste of time. PROGRESS! And progress must be struggle.

Rationally I understand that all of these things are just imaginary hoops I've created in my mind to jump through, but it's hard to overcome the notion that easy = lazy. That REAL artists push themselves every time they put pen to paper. I have to be serious about this, after all, or who will take me seriously?
